Forgings in the form of cylinders with a hole will become part of the emergency feed pump.

The plant Modern Forging Technologies, which is part of the Foundry & Forging Division of KONAR Industrial Group, has mastered the manufacture of forgings in the form of cylinders with a hole.

The product will be used in the manufacture of the emergency feed pump for cooling the power units of the nuclear reactor of the Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh.

– The project was implemented thanks to cooperation with another company of the Division – BVK foundry. This ensured a full production cycle in accordance with the high requirements of the customer. We have designed and created forging tooling, carried out several stages of heat treatment and machining. As a result, we manufactured a stepped tapered mandrel – the main process tool for making a central hole in forgings. The Production and Process Departments carried out full-scale development, which made it possible to achieve a required geometry of the product, – said Aleksander Cherkasov, Deputy Director of MFT LLC.

This technology significantly optimizes production processes – it reduces machining time and lowers raw material consumption rates.

The finished products passed all types of quality control and, according to the contract, were shipped to the customer.

Rooppur is a nuclear power plant which is being constructed under the Russian NPP-2006 project. The site chosen for construction is located 160 kilometers from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. The foundation stone of the future power plant was laid in 2013. The facility will consist of two power units with modern reactors of 1200 MW capacity each, the life cycle of which is 60 years with the possibility of extending it for another 20 years.
